Block vs. PipeGuardIt Pays to Count Your Steps

Many contractors use wood blocks as pipe supports. After all, they are inexpensive and easy to make.

Or are they?

Consider the time and steps necessary to make and install wood block supports:
1. Travel to/from lumber yard for 4x4s, clamps and screws using your trucks and your gas!
2. Load and unload the truck and stack the lumber.
3. Cut and stack the cut 4x4s so they are ready for the next job.
4. Load the 4x4s into a truck, and unload at jobsite.
5. Place into position under the pipe and install the clamp.

If you need a slip sheet, it takes even longer.

Wood Block Installatino

PipeGuard pipe supports are a better alternative. These heavy duty EPDM supports won’t rot or damage the membrane, and unlike wood block supports, they are designed to accommodate pipe expansion and contraction.

PipeGuard Installation

Better yet, installation takes just seconds and your crews will only handle them once:
1. Squeeze PipeGuard around pipe. Done!

That’s it. You’ll deliver a more professional looking roof and save a ton of labor in the process.

Toss Out the Measuring Tape!

ReelFastWhen it comes to properly spacing 2 3/8-inch EyeHook® Plates for membrane installation applications, ReelFast collated seam plates eliminate the guess work.

Each reel has 500, 2-3/8 inch EyeHook Plates pre-spaced at 6- or 12-inch intervals, eliminating the need to measure for accurate fastener placement.

Collated seam plates remain properly spaced for improved installation efficiency and productivity. Simply secure the first plate over the center of the top rib in the deck, and walk the reel along the edge of the membrane to dispense plates at the proper spacing.

ReelFast is designed for use with OMG manufactured #14 Heavy Duty or #15 Extra Heavy Duty fasteners when mechanically attaching single-ply membrane to steel, wood or structural concrete decks.

So get ReelFast for your next project and forget the measuring tape.

drainDon’t Let Rooftop Drains
Drain Your Wallet

Many contractors subcontract rooftop drain work in re-roofing applications. This could be costing you a lot of money.

Old roof drains are usually rusty, brittle and missing parts. Repairing strainer domes, clamping rings and other components can be both challenging and time intensive. Consider the time it takes to take out and clean each unit, find and install the replacement parts, paint, reassemble and reinstall on the roof. The entire process can take hours.

Hercules DrainSubcontracting the work to a mechanical contractor drives up the price and typically delays the project. Furthermore, this usually disrupts building tenants since a total drain replacement requires access to the underside of the deck. Even worse, you are not making money on this aspect of the project.

30 Minute Installation

A better option is installing a Hercules RetroDrain, the most specified retro-drain in the industry. It takes less than 30 minutes to install the drain from the roof-deck and it doesn't disrupt building occupants. The result is a professional installation that won't delay the project and puts more money in your pocket.

Use the Right Length Fastener for the Project

Screw Length

Today’s roofing fasteners are engineered for specific applications that take into consideration a wide range of factors such as deck-type, gauge and tensile strength among others. In addition to making sure that the fastener you select is appropriate for the application, specifying proper fastener length is also important to long-term performance.

To meet FM approvals, each fastener must penetrate the deck by a specified amount. OMG #12 Standard RoofGrip Fasteners, for example, must penetrate the top flute of steel decks at least 3/4-inch.

Use the following to determine the proper length fastener.

1. Determine the thickness of the existing roofing material.
2. Add thickness of new insulation.
3. Add the minimum fastener penetration required.
4. Determine the length required (for odd sizes, always size up in length, not down).

Project requirements: OMG #12 Standard RoofGrip Fastener on a steel deck.

  EXAMPLE YOUR PROJECT
Existing Roofing
+ 1.75"

New Insulation
+ 1.00"

Minimum Penetration
+ 0.75"
+ 0.75"
Total Fastener Length
= 3.50"

Correct Length Needed
= 3.75"

The proper #12 Standard RoofGrip Fastener for this example is 3.75 inches.
